Honest comparison · updated August 2026

Bolt.new vs. Rocketship:
a model picker, or a finished business.

Bolt.new is a strong developer tool. It runs a full dev environment in the browser, supports many frameworks, and lets you choose the model behind each request. Rocketship makes a different trade: you pick how hard the AI thinks rather than which model does the thinking, you see the price before you spend it, and the app arrives with a phone line that answers, workers that chase leads, and Stripe already wired.

Disclosure: Rocketship publishes this page. Bolt.new capability and pricing notes reflect their public product as of August 2026 — verify current details at bolt.new.

The cost math

Token billing is honest but hard to predict: the cost of a request is known only after it runs, and reasoning tokens count toward it. Rocketship prints the price on the button before you press it, and never moves a request to a costlier tier on your behalf.

The bigger gap is what a month actually buys. One app taken seriously, with the build plus roughly eight structural changes and forty small visual tweaks, uses 11 of a Launch plan's 40 credits here, because the tweaks are free. Metered per action, the same work burns through the allowance roughly twice as fast.

When Bolt.new is the right choice

  • You're a developer who wants a real terminal, package installs and framework choice in the browser.
  • You want to choose the underlying model yourself and are comfortable reasoning about token spend.
  • The application is the entire deliverable and you'll handle customers, calls and payments elsewhere.

When Rocketship is

  • You're a business owner, not a developer, and the app is the front door rather than the product.
  • You want the phone answered, the leads worked and the payments taken without buying four more tools.
  • You'd rather know what a change costs before you make it than reconcile a token bill afterwards.

The comparison that settles it: a phone call.
